The 1997 La Mondotte is slightly delineated, with low acidity. The thick purple color suggests a wine of extraordinary extract and richness. This super-concentrated wine offers a spectacular nose of roasted coffee, licorice, blueberries, and black currants intermixed with smoky new oak. The wine is massive, unctuously-textured, and has an awesomely long finish with gobs of sweet blackberry, blueberry, and kirsch-flavored fruit. It oozes across the palate with remarkable concentration and potential complexity. For its immense size, this wine is neither heavy nor over-done. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2020. Kudos to proprietor Comte de Neipperg!
